WORKSHOP 2

strategy deployment

The role of leadership in the effective implementation of Lean and how the strategy should be deployed

Strategy Deployment, also known as Hoshin Kanri, was developed to assist Lean Transformation, focusing on the development and deployment of strategic objectives. Based on the company’s vision, goals are formulated over a three to five year horizon – which in turn sets targets for the following year.

  • How can the impact of projects on corporate goals be recognized and how can resources be used effectively?
  • How can KPIs be applied as leading indicators to act rather than react?
  • How can the vision and strategy be developed down to the operational level so that not only top management is working on implementation?

Much more than a mere breakdown of goals, Hoshin Kanri is the compass that gives direction to the company’s management. In this process, targets are set for all hierarchical levels and all areas of the organization, in line with the company’s strategic objectives.

The Hoshin also defines the measures that all levels and areas need to take in order to achieve these goals. In order to increase the chances of success, the Hoshin determines a management model for these plans that is driven by the leadership, which plays a fundamental role in this process.

In this practical workshop, you will learn in detail about the method for developing and deploying goals, using tools and forms such as the X Matrix and the Bowling Chart.

Trees are the main raw material for the pulp and paper industry. That’s why those who work in this sector know that patience is required. Not only to respect nature’s cycles, considering the long years from planting to commercial exploitation of an area reforested for this purpose, but also to keep the business profitable in the face of the countless variables on which it depends.

In order to remain long-lived in this segment, companies need to combine operational excellence with the ability to make the best use of externalities. This is exactly what Suzano has done.

On this tour, you will get to know up close – and in practice – the strategies adopted by Suzano to leverage its efficiency to deliver with more quality, at a lower cost and within the estimated timeframe, betting above all on the important role of its leaders in all its units.
